Essential
Oils, What are they? What are their benefits and uses?
First, let’s
take a look the history books.
Essential oils have been around for over 5000 years. For Kings and Queens of Ancient Egypt they
were part of their medicine cabinet and beauty routines. We’ve all heard of
Frankincense, Myrrh, Lavender, and Peppermint. They were also used in Jesus’ time.
Remember the Three Wise men who brought Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. These
oils would have been used to protect baby Jesus. Frankincense is an
anti-inflammatory, helps the immune system and crosses the blood brain barrier.
Myrrh is a disinfectant. It can help with stretch marks and hormones.
Because the
land around Egypt was very fertile the plants and trees that grew
naturally in the Nile Valley were used to produce these oils.
It is
important to understand how they are sourced and produced to provide those
essential therapeutic molecules that live within the plant. These molecules
within the plant are essential to the life of the plant and produce its natural
energy. Different aromatic plants produce different oils. The oils are extracted
from flowers, trees, bushes, seeds and roots. Plants are sourced from their
natural habitat and organic soils, like lavender in Provence. Lavender grown in
other areas will produce different properties because of the chemicals of the
soil.
For them to be 100%pure they must be grown on organic land without pesticides. They are tended from Seed to Seal. That is from the organic seed when it is planted, through the harvesting, distillation process and bottling.
This is the only way the abundant active molecules can be protected. It takes 50lbs of lavender flowers to produce one little bottle of essential oil!!!!!
The
molecules in these oils are so small that when you place them on your skin they are immediately
absorbed into the body. This means they don’t have to travel through our
intricate internal systems.
How can Essential Oils be Used?
- The oils have several different and methods of use this depends on the individual oils.
- Topical. Some oils have to be diluted before using topically.
- Inhalation direct from the bottle.

Oils are very safe but a word of warning. When it says 1 or 2 drops
that’s exactly all it needs. They are highly concentrated and potent. If you are on medication from your doctor it is always wise to consult before taking essential oils.
