Helichrysum Essential Oil. The Fountain of Youth

Helichrysum Essential Oil Uses: The Fountain of Youth

Helichrysum ( Helichrsyum italicum) is a beautiful annual flower. The flowers and leaves are the most useful parts of the plant. It is from the daisy family, and is named for its appearance – not unlike a burst of sunshine! They are cultivated in the US for their ornamental beauty, but they are native to the Mediterranean region.
It grows all over the island of Corsica. The local story goes that Corsica has been fought over for centuries and has seen a great deal of war. Locals believe that Helichrysum grows all over the island to help heal the wounds of those wars, physically and emotionally. That’s a perfect expression of helichrysum’s power to be a perfect healer.

Other helichrysums are from as far as South Africa. Helichrysum essential oil uses are well-established as part of the traditional medicine in that region, as well.
In historical terms, helichrysum has been selected for centuries, sometimes indicated as a gift to the Greek gods in the form of dried flower heads. Now, Helichrysum essential oil uses are more aptly considered a gift to us, with age-reversing capabilities and healing factors packaged in a delightful, bright flower.

Helichrysum’s Brilliance

Within the essential oil, flavonoids, ketones, and terpenes show strong effects, and while these components are typically indicators that caution should be used, helichrysum is an incredibly safe and versatile oil in terms of application.
The effects that have been researched are convincing, and it's no wonder that helichrysum is also called “immortelle” – the fountain of youth.

Here are some of the traditionally-held uses of helichrysum, and the

Helichrysum Essential Oil Use: Antibacterial.

Antimicrobial substances have been used for centuries, but the rise of modern antibiotics and subsequent overuse has created drug-resistant superbugs. Now, natural products are regaining the spotlight as effective treatments. In 2009, French scientists evaluated helichrysum essential oil as a potential natural antibiotic, and they were not disappointed by helichrysum essential oil.

Helichrysum Essential Oil Use: Antimicrobial

In its native regions, helichrysum is known as anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. Tests have been done by a team of Iranian researchers and it appears that Helichrysum has substantial fungicidal effects.

Helichrysum Essential Oil Use: Relief from Stress & Burnout

It has been shown that Helichrysum essential oil can affect our brain and body systems. When mixed with Peppermint and Basil oils it proves to be a relaxing blend. Great for diffusing! However, this is a precious and expensive oil so I use it sparingly in the diffuser.

Helichrysum Essential Oil Use: Anti-Inflammator

When the immune system's normal functions go into overdrive, painful and sometimes life-threatening inflammation can set in anywhere from skin conditions to heart disease. That places anti-inflammatory substances as one of the most important remedies and health boosters we can get our hands on. Helichrysum essential oil falls into that category,
Helichrysum is a fantastic healer that can restore us from the inside out and the outside in. It can help with bruises, cuts, and scrapes, burns (especially sunburns), bites and stings and help reduce the lingering effect of old wounds, such as scars.

A note of caution. Do not use on open or punctures wounds because helichrysum heals skin quite quickly. Open wounds need to heal from the inside out, so they don’t get infected.

As exciting as these remedies and benefits are, helichrysum essential oil benefits and near-legendary effects are found in its anti-aging capabilities. It may hold the secret to aging or even reversing damage already done.

Let’s take a look!

Anti-aging

The key, almost undoubtedly, lies in the combination of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities of the plant and oil,

Oxidative stress is a majçor component of aging, which is a primary risk factor for heart disease.

The very definition of oxidative stress is a cellular breakdown, with free radicals wreaking havoc on tissues – hence the loss of collagen, stiffness and aches and pains, and so on.

When the body can produce enough antioxidants and is supported via dietary and supplemental antioxidants, not only is the breakdown stopped in its tracks, but the cells themselves can actually be repaired and restored.
Helichrysum as a whole herb remedy is one such antioxidant, and the essential oil blends stress relieving ability with the antioxidant capability and anti-inflammatory strength to provide just what is needed to begin to repair years of damage, and promote heart health!

Helichrysum is an excellent choice for:
  • Daily Skin Care
  • Rejuvenating damaged skin
  • Calming inflammation
  • Reducing scars
  • Cuts, scrapes, and bruises
  • Bug bites and stings
  • Soothing skin irritation
  • Soothing burns
  • Healing emotional wounds

My wish is to help people change the way they think about health.
