Talent or Training?
So what do
you think? Much has been written about leadership, whether leaders are born or
made?
One thing
for sure, if you are in Network Marketing and building you team or tribe then
you need to be able to lead.
Seth Godin
said: ‘ Leaders lead when they take positions, when they connect with their
tribes and when they help the tribe connect to itself’
It seems to
me that some people are born with natural leadership characteristics but there
is also a quality on the inside of a person that can be trained, to develop
those essentials leadership skills. Les Brown
says that we have greatness within in us and not to sell ourselves short. If we
were all born with a certain degree of power then the key to success must be
discovering this innate power and then using it daily.
Let’s take a
look at some of the personal habits that all leaders have:
ü Wake up early and embrace the day
with a clear vision.
ü Regular daily exercise.
ü Meditate.
ü Visualize their daily activities with
anticipation and expectation. They see it clearly.
There is a saying: ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.’
ü Work with passion.
ü Strong work ethic.
Have you heard of John Woden and his
pyramid of success? It is a useful reference to see which skills you possess
and which you need to develop.
Do you possess all of these traits? Which ones do you need to improve on?
I’d love to know which skills most people lack.
Let’s take a look at how you can use these skills in your Network
Marketing Business to serve your team. In Network Marketing your'e your own
CEO: Chief Experience officer.
You set the example and standards for your team to follow,
your code of dress, events, attitude. Set
high expectations.
1. Connection to your Organization.
Talk about the company’s
mission statement. Read it to your team. Help them see the bigger picture.
2.Discuss your team mission and group
purpose.
Locking arms together. Help to
develop more leaders. Create a culture of: this is how we do it here.
2. Take inspiring actions but always be
authentic.
3. Create an environment where people
will take action that they wouldn’t normally take. In a traditional business we
are taught to follow not lead. Your people need to feel trust and safety.
4. Tell stories that encourage people into
action. Show your humanity. Tell your story, your journey, your big WHY!
5. Have a BLITZ day once a month where
the whole group come together to chat around variety of things. With technology
this is easy to achieve with Skype, Blab, Zoom depending on the size of your
tribe.
6. Promote your company’s events whether
they are local group meetings or large corporate trainings. Make events part of
your team culture and promote to next event.
It’s at the events that your team will feel part of something bigger,
begin to have more understanding of the culture and meet many new
entrepreneurs. Often they have a light bulb moment or defining moment.
7. Build trust. People will not stay
with you if they are not valued. They are part of a team but they are also
individuals. Learn to play to their strengths.
8. Discuss meaningful, specific,
measurable goals with members of your team. Don’t just ask them to give 110%,
this means nothing.
9. Be the Servant.
Help them manifest their
dreams. What are their dreams? Become a
major
Contribution to people in your team/ family.
Be the visionary for them, and help them develop their leadership skills and
cause them to do things that they normally wouldn’t do.
Be likeable, kind, generous,
trustworthy.
10.Solve problems.
Look for answers to help
solve the teams and individual problems. Be a solutions provider.
11.Leaders are smart about money. Have
trainings for your team about money, tax advantages, saving etc. Let them know
from the beginning that this is not a get rich quick scheme it is a business
that takes time to grow.
12.Become the leader you would like to
be. Improve you own people skills with continuous training and learning.
Address your own personal
issues. Maybe you need to overcome the fear of public speaking.
Get over it! Get on
with it! Become the inspiring leader you
are meant to be.
What do you think? Are
leaders born or made or both?
